Growing TOO fast...

I think that Aubrey is going to be the same size as Logan before we know it. Logan is growing, but not at the same rate as typical kids. The slow growth and small size is common for kids with DS. He was a chubby baby, but now he has been exactly the same weight for 1 year and he has grown only a few inches over the last year. His doctor is happy that he has slimmed down though. When he is around kids who are about 1 year old, he is very similar to their size. I guess that is ok. If he looks like a younger child, they don't expect him to act like his real age. He is the size of kids with similar abilities as him. If he was the size of a typical 20 month old, it sure would be much harder to carry him. I often wonder when Aubrey will catch up to Logan developmentally...and how I will feel about that...sad?...we'll see...one day at a time...

I have had the same experience with Sydney. She is actually the same size as her peers, but she looks younger in the face than her peers. Our next door neighbor is only a few weeks younger and walking and talking. I just mentioned to my hubby tonight at my son's 5th birthday party that the gap between Ethan and Sydney is growing. Sigh! I knew this was coming but it is still hard to swallow sometimes. The silver lining is that Ethan is a great mentor for Sydney. She sees what to do next.

but he is so stinking cute how can you be sad? You will find that if Aubrey does pass Logan developmentally that it will give Logan a reason to keep up!

I've wondered the same thing about when our next one catches Micah. You and I are in similar positions where our little guys with Ds are sandwiched between two "typical" kids. Thanks for being candid in your posts, Mel. It helps to not feel alone.

Look at those cute toes!

We have a little boy with ds who started school after the break. He is in the fifth grade and looks like he is in the second. He's the superstar around the school. Everyone loves him!

My boys are 15 months apart (Cameron is 2 1/2 and Mitchell is 15 months). Cameron is only a little bit taller than Mitchell. We are constantly asked if they are twins.

Developmentally, Mitchell does things so easily compared to Cameron which has really opened my eyes as to how hard our kiddos really have to work at things.
