A first step attempt!!!

Logan is a standing machine!! He just keeps practicing, and tonight he attempted to step when he was standing in the middle of the room! I am a little scared, because he took some hard falls. He has a really hard time stabilizing his upper body. When he steps, his upper body bends where ever his weight shifts and he has no control. When I hold him at the waist, I can feel that he just has no muscle tone in his core muscles. He wants to walk SO bad and he gets so excited each time he gets up to try! It makes me emotional when I see him struggling. He could take off if he just had the strength...I wish I could some how give him the strength he needs. He deserves to walk for all the effort and work he has done.

Mel, I sense the sadness in your post. I know it's hard to see Logan struggle so much with something that you probably didn't even think much about with Devin. You're ahead of me in this journey, so I'm not the one to give you advice. But keep in mind that he's getting closer! And though his muscles might be weak, his spirit is strong and that matters more in the long run.

Way to go Logan! I can't think of anything specific to strengthen his trunk. Have you tried the wheelbarrel? Does his PT have any suggestions?

Logan is an early mover and shaker. I'll bet Margaret is pleased. We have a little shopping cart that we would weigh down with bags of sugar, flour, etc. and Wyatt would need his upper body strength to slowly push with control and steadiness. Perhaps it is too soon for this at Logan's stage in the game but definitely her has earn a gold star for effort. Mental determination is a virtue of our kids with Ds.
