Well, our first sickness scare turned out alright and we can just hope to keep him as healthy as possible through the rest of the cold and flu season.

First Hospital Stay
Wednesday night, Logan went to bed and only minutes later he started to make really scary sounds when he breathed in and out. I thought maybe he was just stuffy, which he usually is and I went to bed, but couldn't sleep. I just laid there worrying about what was happening. Soon he was crying and coughing and gasping for air. We always have a humidifier running, but that wasn't working so we went in the bathroom and ran the shower. The steam didn't help much, but Logan eventually settled down and fell back asleep. He continued to make loud sounds in his sleep so I just sat up watching him. Over the next few hours he woke up a couple more times crying, coughing and gasping for air. I got on the phone with a nurse and described what was happening and she thought right away that it was croup. His barking cough and loud breathing (it sounded to me like a honking goose) gave it away. She told me that the croup comes at night and we should keep doing what we were doing until morning, then I should bring him in to his pediatrician. I also needed to watch him and make sure he wasn't turning blue (great way to help me relax), or then I would need to go to the ER. At about 5am he started running a fever (which was not supposed to happen with croup) of about 102-103...I called again and they said he would be ok until his 11am appointment, but that I could take him to the ER if I didn't want to wait. Well, we waited and when we got to his appointment they tried to treat him, but it didn't help. He had develop stridor (the loud sound when he was breathing and his rib cage was retracting when he was struggling to breath) which should not have been happening in the middle of the day. He also still had a 102 temp. We ended up going to the hospital and staying the night. He also had bronchitis and they even worried about pneumonia, but thankfully he did not get that. I did finally get a little sleep and Logan started responding to the treatments and medication so we were able to go home the next day. He is doing much better today. His pediatrician told us that when Logan gets sick it will always be a little more serious than an average child and he will always be a little bit more susceptible to catching illnesses.
Well, our first sickness scare turned out alright and we can just hope to keep him as healthy as possible through the rest of the cold and flu season.

Go Diego Go!
Last Sunday, we visited the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center for the first time. Devin, Grandma Bonnie and I went to Go Diego Go Live. It was awesome! I didn't know what to expect, but the actors and music were great, especially the ones behind the scenes controlling the animals. Devin had a blast! His eyes were glued to the stage the entire hour and a half! I have found myself quickly becoming a fan of children's shows. We have also see the Doodlebops live in concert and I don't think I have ever had more fun at a concert or known all the words to a band's songs. Yep, I knew every word. Oh how life changes with children.
Devin was a little shy about getting his picture taken.

Photo Jewelry
I have found a fun hobby! I made a photo bracelet and I am also working on another bracelet and a necklace. I am thinking about making them for other people. Doing "crafty" stuff is therapeutic for me, it makes me relax and of course I do it when it is quiet in the house. I also love creating diaper cakes. I can't wait to start the next one. Logan is 5 months today!
Logan is learning to sit and is weighing in at over 18 pounds. We go back to the doctor in one month, so we will get the official stats then. I am super excited about getting a Bumbo Chair for him next week from Birth to 3. He loves his new jumperoo, but now he will have another way to play. He also had his 3 month evaluation through Birth to 3 this week and fell into the 5-6 month range for all of his skills right now! That was great to hear. His next evaluation will be in January and we have big goals, like sitting alone, that we will work on until then.

Playdate
Yesterday, Devin, Logan and I had a play date with the Down Syndrome Family Network. Ruby was full of smiles for me! She is so adorable! We also finally got to meet new baby Aaron. He was so tiny and precious. I have already forgotten that Logan was that tiny only months ago. Aaron is doing really well. He is three weeks old now and wasn't due until the 20th of this month (October!!).

Mulberry Lane Farm
We spent this morning at Mulberry Lane Farm. It was so warm! Everything was Devin's favorite this year. He was especially interested in going inside the barns and feeding the animals. He also loved picking his own pumpkin. Logan was awake only for the hayride, but he loved it! I can't wait to see what he thinks next year.

DOWN to Earth
Last night I attended my first DOWN to Earth meeting in Oshkosh. It is a Down syndrome support group for the Fox Cities. (different than the one that I am a part of in Appleton, which is the DS Family Network through the Arc of the Fox Cities) I was surprised to see so many families with new babies joining the group for the first time just like us. It was great to talk with them and hear about their experiences and their new little bundles, but their stories made me feel so thankful that Logan was born without any major medical issues. The families are doing so well considering everything they are going through and will go through in the near future.

Baby Food and My Boys
Logan tried a tiny bit of cereal today. I think he may have swallowed a bit or two, which was more than I expected. But then I tried to give him a bottle...well that didn't go so well. He just cried until I gave in and gave him the "real thing". I don't mind that he doesn't take a bottle until I really would like to get away for more than an hour or two. Oh well, he is going to grow up too fast and then I will miss the days when he needed me and only me.
